Battery Incentives
Unlock the savings with Creditex
The Australian Government has introduced new incentives to encourage the uptake of battery storage across homes and businesses. Electricity storage is one of the most effective ways we can manage our personal energy ecosystem—reducing reliance on the grid, cutting energy bills, and supporting the transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy. These new incentives give installation companies a compelling selling point to offer customers real savings and long-term energy independence.
Battery + VPPs - What You Need To Know!
Effective 1 July 2025, the PDRS BESS1 rebate has been replaced by the Federal Government’s new Cheaper Home Batteries Program (CHBP).
To learn more about the CHBP, visit the Clean Energy Regulator’s website.
Battery system connectivity to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is now being further incentivised under the updated BESS2 program. Installation companies like yours can claim certificates, helping to reduce the upfront cost of battery installs and VPP connections—making it even more affordable and appealing for your customers.
NSW Battery Incentives: What can you get?
New battery installation
incentives
For homeowners or businesses, incentives are calculated based on how much peak demand reduction the battery can offer.
Battery connection to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP)
There are extra incentives if your battery is connected to a VPP. This means the battery can help stabilise the grid during peak times, earning even more savings.
How do you qualify for the NSW Battery Incentives?

Battery size: Between 2kWh and 28kWh. You can install more than one battery if they hit this total.

Clean Energy Coucil Approved: The battery must be on the CEC’s approval list.

Solar System Required: The property needs to have solar or be installing solar at the same time.

VPP connection: For the VPP incentives, the battery must meet additional requirements, like specific warranty conditions and CEC standards.

Why jump on NSW Battery Incentives?
These incentives can help you lower the upfront cost of a battery system for your clients, while also boosting their energy independence. Paired with solar, batteries let them store excess power during peak times, cutting their reliance on the grid and saving money.
By connecting to a VPP, they can claim even more incentives while supporting grid stability during those high-demand periods.

BESS1
Suspended from 1 July 2025
Battery incentives are changing. From 1 July 2025, the BESS1 scheme under the Peak Reduction Certificate (PRC) program will be suspended.
- BESS1 PRCs can be installed and claimed until 30 June 2025
- Claims for installs completed before this date will still be accepted into July
- Installations from 1 July 2025 onwards will no longer be eligible for BESS1 PRCs
What’s Next?
New STCs for batteries will be available under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) starting 1 July 2025 (Note: STCs for solar PV systems remain unchanged and continue as normal)
PRCs under BESS2, for battery systems connected to Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), have been enhanced — more information to come
